A bit about myself and my therapies ...
I have been a chartered physiotherapist for over 40 years, qualifying from St Thomas’ Hospital, London in the late 70’s. I began my career working with the late Dr James Cyriax. Here I learnt first rate diagnostic skills that have served me for my whole career.
I have always been interested in holistic medicine and very soon studied and qualified to augment my clinical knowledge. It has been a fascinating journey!
In the early days of my career this involved training as a reflex therapist, (reflexology taught to health care professionals). Here I was introduced to the concept of the microcosm and the macrocosm. Namely, that our feet, hands, head and ears exist as microcosms of the human body and mirror different areas as well as exhibiting different emotions. Hard to believe, but it really can connect.
I also learnt so much more about the power of touch, something that I had not clocked during my training! Over the years, I have studied Reiki, a Japanese form of healing, Shamanic Medicine, the oldest form of medicine known to man.
Here, deep connection with nature and her secrets are used to help us understand ourselves. More recently I have qualified as a Craniosacral Therapist with Thomas Atlee in London.
I have studied many different forms of meditation, yoga and personal development and have been a Metamorphic Practitioner for 28 years.
A consultation involves both talking and ‘hands on.' Over the years I find that there is no substitute for a thorough physical examination to establish a diagnosis, as there is also no substitute for appropriate physical exercise. Nearly all of the exercise and homework that I prescribe has a yoga base and often involves the whole body.
My aim is to identify physical conditions and empower people to facilitate change where it is needed.
Initially, after having talked things through, I combine a physical examination and diagnosis followed by a treatment to address the appropriate symptoms and give an idea of prognosis.
Treatment is usually carried out on a couch and often combines mainstream Physiotherapy skills with Reflex Therapy (reflexology) and Craniosacral Therapy. In some cases, Metamorphic Technique is the treatment of choice.
Most treatments are covered by major health insurance companies. Patients are advised to check their policies before commencing treatment.
